Moishe Alexander Donates to Ontario SPCA

Moishe Alexander donated $950.00 CDN to the Ontario SPCA (http://www.ontariospca.ca)  in 2008.

About the OSPCA:

Through its province-wide network of 50 plus Communities, the Ontario SPCA (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is one of the largest, most responsive animal welfare organizations in the country, providing care and shelter for tens of thousands of animals every year.

As a non-profit charitable organization, the Ontario SPCA is unique amongst animal welfare organizations in Ontario: the Ontario SPCA Act mandates the Society to enforce animal cruelty laws and provides Ontario SPCA Community investigators with police powers to do so.

For over a century the Ontario SPCA has provided province-wide leadership on matters relating to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of animal welfare, and worked with its Communities to encourage humane and suitable animal care; call attention to unacceptable practices that harm animals; investigate cruelty complaints; carry out rescues; bring perpetrators of cruelty to court; advocate for humane laws; and provide care to all animals in need.

Moishe Alexander Donates to Yeshivas Nefesh Dovid

In 2008, Moishe Alexander donated $1,440.00 CDN to Yeshivas Nefesh Dovid (http://www.nefeshdovid.com).

About Yeshivas Nefesh Dovid:

The first Jewish high school of its kind in the world, Yeshivas Nefesh Dovid (YND), founded in 2001, channels the knowledge of Torah into the hearts, minds and lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing young men. YND, with its sterling secular educational program, is a valuable support system for this population throughout the global Jewish community. YND accepts young men in their teens from yeshivos, Jewish Day Schools, and public schools and addresses all the emotional and academic challenges that those with hearing loss typically deal with on a daily basis regardless of mode of communication.

A unique aspect of the program is the presence of role models who are deaf or hard-of-hearing themselves, including Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Kakon, the Dean and Rosh Yeshiva, and co-founder Dr. Hart Bressler, MD.  In addition to trained and qualified rebbeim and teachers, sign language interpreting services, speech pathology, audiology services and an array of recreational activities all complement the program. Upon graduation, the students receive an internationally recognized Ontario Secondary Diploma. Since its inception, YND’s current home base at the Yeshiva Gedolah of Toronto only serves to further integrate the students with hearing peers and the community at large.

Moishe Alexander Donates to Chabad Flamingo

In 2008, Moishe Alexander and Canadian Funding Corporation made a substantial donation to Chabad Flamingo, a synagogue in Thornhill, Ontario.

About Chabad Flamingo:

In the late 1980s, Rabbi Zalman A. Grossbaum, the visionary director of Chabad Lubavitch activities in the Province of Ontario, took notice of the planning of new neighborhoods in the northern areas of Thornhill.  He inspired Mr. Ernest Manson, a local developer, to commit a 2.4-acre site for a future Chabad Centre.

Mr. Manson passed away, on the wings of a mitzvah, shortly after making this gracious donation. As the area developed, his family generously honoured his commitment. Rabbi Grossbaum then appointed Rabbi Mendel and Faygie Kaplan, to serve as the Shluchim to the area.

Filled with energy, optimism and dedication, the Kaplan’s founded Chabad @ Flamingo shortly after their arrival from Jerusalem in the spring of 1998. Little did they know that they would soon be enthusiastically welcomed by the diverse multi-cultural assortment of Canadian Jews living in the area.

The Kaplan’s and Chabad @ Flamingo provided a genuine, common foundation where these various elements came together. Beginning at ground zero, without a single contact in the neighbourhood, remarkable growth ensued.

In the fall of 1999, Chabad @ Flamingo moved into the magnificent but still incomplete, Ernest Manson Lubavitch Centre. The state-of-the-art, 22,000 square foot facility included a synagogue sanctuary, beth midrash chapel and library, classrooms, administrative offices, multi-purpose social hall which also serves as an auditorium and gymnasium, a fully-serviced kitchen and attractive mikvah (ritual bath) facilities.

In the winter of 2006/07 the women’s mikvah was totally renovated and remodeled into a spa-like facility that is currently the most beautiful mikvah in the country! At the same time a handsome new men’s mikvah was added as well.

As the community continued to outgrow the (still relatively new) building plans were laid for the addition of 22,000 additional square feet. In the spring of 2008 ground was broken on phase one of this most ambitious project.

Completion of phase one, which includes a stunning new synagogue sanctuary (seating nearly 700), a bridal/simcha suite, new entrances and ancillary rooms, a renovated Beth Midrash and totally remade landscaping and parking area’s is slated for completion in the spring of 2009, with a grand dedication event being planned for Thursday, March 26th .
